Drive Shows As “Removed”, Will Not Automatically Rebuild

TSS Generation 2 and 3 series video servers

Symptom:

One of the internal hard drives shows as “Removed” and will not automatically rebuild even after rebooting the system.

Possible Reason(s):

The RAID no longer is properly detecting the drive or the drive has failed.

Solution(s):

Option 1

  1. Reboot the server.
  2. At the prompt, press CTRL-i to enter the Intel RAID utility.
  3. “”Degraded” volume and disk available for rebuilding detected. Selecting a disk initiates a rebuild. Rebuild completes in operating system” message appears.
  4. Press enter to accept.
  5. Select exit to reboot.
  6. Rebuild should start when server boots to OS.

Option 2

  1. Shut down the server.
  2. Verify the cabling is properly connected to the drive. Reseat all cable connections.
  3. Power the server on and in the post messages make sure the drive is now showing.

Option 3

  1. Shut down the server.
  2. Replace the failed drive.
  3. Power on the server and allow it to boot into the main interface.
  4. If the new drive does not automatically start to rebuild, refer to option 1.
