DigiCart E and EX series systems, model E-3000
Symptom:
- System will not boot up or power on.
- System powers on but there are lines on the LCD.
- System powers on and LEDs flash but will not boot.
Possible Reason(s):
The most likely cause is a power supply related issue. On older systems, this could also be related to a filed system drive or even a failed main board.
Solution(s):
- Check and reseat all internal power cables.
- Disconnect power from the unit and remove the top cover.
- Remove and reseat the two multi-colored cables running from the power supplies to the main board.
- Look for loose lines or corrosion on any of the connectors.
- Take a small flat blade screwdriver and slightly push down on each individual line on the top of the cable connectors to attempt to force a better connection.
- Replace the top cover and retest to see if the issue is resolved.
- Check the voltages on both power supplies. WARNING: Hazardous Voltage. The open frame power supplies and some other components contain line voltage or higher. Contact may cause electric shock, burn, or death. Service should only be performed by qualified personnel.
- Note that the switching power supply will not power up unless connected to the main board.
- Make sure to check the voltages at both the power supply end and the main board end.
- Reference the knowledge base article related to DigiCart E series power supply voltages for the appropriate voltage measurements.
- Failed main drive.
- There is a rare possibility that a failed hard drive or zip drive can lockup the system and prevent it from starting.
- Try disconnecting the power and data cables to the drives and see if the system boots further.
- If it does, try connecting only the hard drive and see if it boots further or stops where it did before to try to identify which drive has failed.
- Anything beyond the above issues usually indicates a failure on the main board. Main boards for these systems are no longer available.
