Applies to:
MAXX-1200HD, MAXX-2400HD and MAXX-2420HD systems with a 3ware 9650 RAID controller.
Symptom:
For a seemingly unknown reason, the RAID fails and the system boots to the EFI shell.
Possible Reason(s):
The originally shipping firmware on the 9650 cards may glitch during use.
Solution(s):
Customers are advised to update to the 4.10.0.24 version of the firmware.
Step 1: Obtaining the raid card firmware upgrade
- Download the archive “9650 Firmware 4.10.0.24.zip” from the following link. 9650-Firmware-4.10.0.24.zip
- Unzip the archive to your desktop or other appropriate folder.
Step 2: Create the bootable USB firmware upgrade key
- Insert a blank USB memory key into the computer and make note of the drive letter it is assigned.
- Using an application such as Win32DiskImager or Rufus or BalenaEtcher, write the image to the USB key.
- In general, within the writing application, select the .img file called “9650 Raid Firmware 4.10.0.24.img” from the directory noted above.
- Select the drive letter for the USB key the image is to be written to. CAUTION: This process will wipe all information from the source USB key.
- Click on the Write button.
Step 3: Update the firmware on the 9650 raid controller
- Power off the 360 Systems HD server
- Insert the USB key in one of the available slots in the back of the server and power on the system.
- The server will automatically boot from the USB key.
- Answer “Y” to all of the prompts
- When finished you will see a DOS prompt. Remove the USB key and power the server off and on again.
If the RAID has failed and the system will not boot, the RAID will need to be setup and the software installed on the system. Please refer to the knowledge base article on systems booting to the EFI shell.
